Shimla, also known as Simla is the capital city of Himachal Pradesh, situated in the northern part of India. It is bordered by:
Mandi and Kullu from north
Kinnaur from east
Uttarakhand from south-east and
Solan and Sirmaur from south
Shimla is one of the top 10 most preferred entrepreneurial locations in India. It was declared as a summer capital of British India in 1864. After independence, it became the capital of Punjab, and later the capital of Himachal Pradesh. The name of this city has been derived from the goddess ‘Shyamala Devi’, who is an alternate name of the Hindu goddess Kali. Up to 2011 Shimla comprise of 19 erstwhile hill states, which are Balson, Bhaji and Koti, Bushahr, Tharoch & Dhadi, Darkoti, Khaneti & Delath, Kumharsain, Dhami, Keothal, Jubbal, Madhan, Ratesh, Rawingarh, and Sangri.
Shimla is a large and growing city, which is a home to many reputed colleges and research institutions in India. It serves a large number of temples and palaces. This city is also well noted for its Tudorbethan and neo-gothic style of buildings, which dates back to the architecture of colonical era.

The Mall: Main shopping street of Shimla.
Christ Church: The second oldest church in northern India.
Jakhu Hill: The highest peak (8000 ft) which offers a beautiful view of the town and also of the snow-capped Himalayas.
Jutogh: It is an army cantonment near Totu, which is an important suburb of Shimla city.
Shimla State Museum: The Museum, which has tried to protect hill-out and also the cultural wealth of state.
Sankat Mochan: A famous temple of Lord Hanuman.
Anand Vilas: Is a spiritual group dedicated to Mother Nature.
Kufri: The local winter sports center, and a small zoo too.
Chharabra: 13 km from Shimla on route to Kufri.
Naldehra: Known for the Naldehra Golf Club, arranging place of annual Sipi fair in June.
Chail: Chail was the summer capital of Maharaja of Patiala before Independence, which is known for its highest cricket pitch in the world.
Arki: The capital of the hill state of Baghal
Sanjauli: The main suburb of Shimla.
All these features attract large number of tourists from all over the India. Rails are the best and cheapest way to reach to Shimla, and hence most of the travellers prefer to stay at ‘Hotels near Shimla Railway Station’, so that it becomes easy for them to catch trains, and also many of the tourist destinations are at a close proximity to this Railway Station.
